Fix’n Fidos: Keeping Pets Where They Belong At Home
Kacey Montoya is turning her love for animals into real change across Southern California, one pet, one family, and one very LA golf tournament at a time.
In Los Angeles, we love a good cause. Add adorable dogs, a day on the golf course, a few familiar faces, and a mission that genuinely changes lives, and you have something pretty special.
At the center of it all is Emmy Award-winning journalist, meteorologist, and longtime animal advocate Kacey Montoya, founder of Fix’n Fidos, a Southern California nonprofit built around one beautifully simple idea: sometimes keeping an animal out of a shelter means helping the family who already loves them.
Fix’n Fidos works to reduce the number of dogs and cats surrendered to shelters by helping pet owners experiencing financial hardship with spay and neuter surgeries, vaccines, and veterinary care. The organization also provides veterinary assistance for veterans and their companion animals.
It’s practical help with an emotional impact: keeping pets healthy, loved, and exactly where they belong.
“Just because you’re going through hard times doesn’t mean you should have to lose your pet,” Montoya says. “Sometimes people just need a little help, and if we can step in and keep that pet healthy and at home with the family who loves them, that’s what Fix’n Fidos is all about.”
Fore the Paws
That mission takes center stage on Sunday, October 4, 2026, when Fix’n Fidos hosts its 6th Annual Charity Golf Tournament Fore the Paws at Monarch Beach Golf Links in Dana Point.
The annual tournament has become the nonprofit’s flagship fundraiser, bringing together Southern California’s entertainment community, local businesses, animal lovers, and longtime supporters for a day that's both fun and incredibly meaningful.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., followed by a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start, with a post-golf reception, silent auction and awards to follow. And in true Southern California fashion, familiar faces abound. Past and present celebrity guests and KTLA personalities highlighted by the event include Kacey Montoya, Jessica Hall, Kendra Wilkinson, Vera Jimenez, Lu Parker, Frank Buckley, Glen Walker, Kirk Hawkins, David Pingalore and Janie Buss.
But behind the golf, laughs, and friendly competition is a serious purpose: tournament proceeds directly support Fix’n Fidos programs, including spay and neuter services and emergency veterinary assistance.
According to the organization, Fix’n Fidos has helped more than 5,550 pets, funded more than 2,200 spay and neuter surgeries and awarded more than 2,500 veterinary grants. The tournaments have collectively raised more than $1 million, helping turn one fun day on the course into year-round support for animals and the people who love them.
LA Businesses Showing Up for the Animals
A major part of the tournament’s success comes from sponsors who continue to show up year after year.
Longtime supporters include Desolation Hotel South Lake Tahoe, the luxury Tahoe retreat bringing a little mountain escape to the SoCal fundraiser; South County Lexus Mission Viejo; and Purple Rein Racing, founded by Janie Buss.
Their continued involvement reminds us that giving back doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes it looks like writing a check. Sometimes it’s donating an experience, sponsoring a hole or showing up for a round of golf. And sometimes it’s simply using your platform to help more people learn about a cause.
For Kacey, that community support allows Fix’n Fidos to say “yes” to more families when an unexpected veterinary bill could otherwise mean an impossible decision.
Because anyone who has ever loved a pet knows they aren’t simply an animal living in the house. They’re waiting at the door when you get home. They’re on the couch when they technically aren’t supposed to be. They’re in the family photos, on the holiday cards, and somehow taking up 80 percent of a king-size bed despite weighing 20 pounds.
They’re family.
And that is what makes Fix’n Fidos feel so personal.
Kacey has taken her platform and her very real love of animals and turned it into action, connecting Los Angeles and Southern California’s generous community with families who could use a hand and pets who deserve to stay in the homes where they are already loved.
It’s heartfelt, it’s impactful, and, yes, there happens to be a beautiful golf course involved.
