Some places leave an impression long before the first glass of wine is poured.
Tucked into the rolling hills of California's Santa Ynez Valley, Folded Hills is one of those rare destinations where every winding road, ancient oak tree, and vineyard row tells a story. It is a place where luxury is measured not by extravagance, but by authenticity. Here, hospitality is deeply personal, nature takes center stage, and every guest is welcomed like family.
At the heart of it all are Kim and Andy Busch.
While the Busch name is forever woven into American history, the couple has spent the last two decades creating a legacy uniquely their own. Their journey from St. Louis to California wine country wasn't simply about opening a winery. It was about creating a meaningful life centered around family, stewardship, community, and the simple joy of bringing people together.

A New Beginning
When Kim and Andy relocated their family to Santa Barbara County, they weren't searching for another business venture. They were searching for a different way of life.
Drawn by the beauty of California's Central Coast and Andy's lifelong passion for polo, they envisioned a place where their children could grow up surrounded by open land instead of expectations. The move offered something invaluable: a chance to create memories grounded in nature, hard work, and togetherness.
That vision eventually led them to an extraordinary ranch filled with majestic oak trees, flowing creeks, fertile soil, and endless possibilities. The moment they crossed the property's historic bridge, they knew they had found home.
It would become Folded Hills.
Listening to the Land
Unlike many winery founders who begin with a business plan, the Busches allowed nature to lead.
Before planting a single vine, they spent an entire year studying the ranch's soils, climate, and growing conditions. Rather than forcing the land to fit a vision, they allowed the property to reveal what it was naturally meant to produce.
The answer was Rhône varietals.
Today, Folded Hills has become one of California's most respected boutique wineries, producing handcrafted wines that celebrate both vintage and place. Every bottle reflects minimal intervention, organically farmed vineyards, and a philosophy that favors authenticity over manipulation.
Instead of chasing consistency through additives or shortcuts, each vintage is allowed to express its own unique personality.
The result is a collection of wines that consistently earn critical acclaim while remaining deeply connected to the land from which they came.

Hospitality Beyond the Tasting Room
Long before guests discover the wines, they discover something equally memorable.
Warmth.
Hospitality has always been central to the Busch family story, and Kim has transformed that philosophy into the heartbeat of Folded Hills.
The tasting room, housed inside the property's original farmhouse, feels less like a commercial destination and more like an invitation into someone's home.
Conversations replace presentations. Stories accompany every pour. Visitors are encouraged to explore at their own pace while discovering the ranch's rich history.
Wine enthusiasts may arrive for a tasting, but they often leave having met horses, Clydesdales, sheep, alpacas, a zebra, a camel, and countless other ranch residents that have become beloved parts of the Folded Hills experience.
Children roam freely through gardens, families picnic beneath towering trees, and guests reconnect with a slower rhythm of life.
In an increasingly digital world, Folded Hills offers something refreshingly rare: genuine human connection.
A Family Business in Every Sense
Everything at Folded Hills reflects the Busch family's values.
The ranch became a classroom where their four children learned responsibility, respect for nature, and the rewards of meaningful work. Whether helping care for animals, working the land, or growing up surrounded by agriculture, those experiences shaped each of them in lasting ways.
Today, while each child has followed a unique path, the family's shared commitment to stewardship continues to define the ranch.
That sense of continuity extends into the wines themselves.
Many of Folded Hills' labels pay tribute to generations of family history, honoring ancestors, children, and grandchildren, as well as the stories that connect them all. Each bottle represents more than a varietal. It represents a chapter in a living family legacy.

More Than a Winery
Folded Hills has evolved into far more than a destination for exceptional wine.
Throughout the year, the ranch hosts unforgettable experiences that celebrate California's agricultural heritage, including farm-to-table dinners, seasonal festivals, Corks & Critters tours, wine tastings, rodeo celebrations, and one of the region's most anticipated annual events, the Folded Hills Polo Classic.
For Andy, polo has always been more than competition.
The sport has taught lessons in discipline, teamwork, resilience, and leadership that continue to shape both family life and business. Those same values are reflected throughout the ranch, where every event emphasizes community, generosity, and meaningful relationships.

Wine with a Greater Purpose
Perhaps the most inspiring chapter of the Folded Hills story is its unwavering commitment to giving back.
Philanthropy isn't an extension of the business. It is woven into its foundation.
Through initiatives like Philanthropy Fridays, the Busches have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for organizations throughout the Santa Ynez Valley, supporting healthcare, youth programs, community organizations, and families facing difficult circumstances.
Following Andy's diagnosis with glioblastoma, one of the most aggressive forms of brain cancer, Kim transformed an intensely personal journey into a mission to help others.
She launched Grapes for Glioblastoma, an organization dedicated to supporting patients and caregivers with expenses often overlooked by traditional healthcare systems. From caregiver assistance to essential equipment and family support, the initiative helps ease burdens that insurance simply doesn't cover.
Today, every bottle sold helps contribute to that mission, proving that great wine can do far more than bring people together around a table.
It can change lives.

A Lasting Legacy
Success has never been measured by production volume or national expansion.
The Busches intentionally remain a boutique winery, choosing quality over quantity and personal relationships over mass distribution.
Their greatest hope is simple.
That every visitor leaves feeling calmer than when they arrived.
That children discover where food truly comes from.
That families reconnect without distractions.
That friends linger around the table just a little longer.
And that somewhere between the vineyards, the animals, the rolling hills, and a thoughtfully crafted glass of wine, people remember what matters most.
Kim and Andy Busch have created far more than an award-winning winery.
They have created a place where heritage meets purpose, where hospitality becomes a way of life, and where every visit reminds us that the greatest luxuries are often the simplest ones: family, friendship, nature, and time well spent.
